Pandemic Report 2020
Welcome to the Change.org Global Civic Engagement Index Research Hub
This page is a dedicated media resource where you will find all data and insights from the research, as well as downloadable imagery and videos which are found in the resources section.
Attention! The Pandemic Report is under embargo until August 25, 2020, 10:00am GMT.
From January 2020 to July 2020, we assembled a team within the Change.org Foundation to dig into our platform data. We spotted trends, analysed data, followed patterns we were seeing across countries, and learned from the information we were collecting. The result of this work is now public through the Pandemic Report you can view here. The analysis of thousands of petitions across the countries found some interesting insights. Covid-19 has accelerated an unprecedented civic engagement that led to global social change on some of the world’s most pressing issues.

Country ranking insights
From the top 25 countries we have seen ten where online civic engagement has increased rapidly, accelerated by Covid-19. From the data, we can identify six countries (South Africa, Peru, Philippines, Malaysia, New Zealand and South Korea) where we have in previous years seen lower engagement, compared to this year. Mainly, South Africa emerged as a clear leader in adopting online activism to create change related to Covid-19 issues.
Country ranking insights
At Change.org, we believe in the power of everyday people in creating the change they want to see in the world. By combining technology-driven campaigns, on-ground capacity-building, and social movements led by people like you, we believe we can build a world where no one is powerless.
We bring together a strong team comprised of local and global staff that work with our platform users to help launch social movements toward impact. And although our offices across Europe, Asia, and the Americas are closed in our effort to flatten-the-curve, our staff continues to work hard in empowering people to #ActAtHome.
The only way to overcome this crisis is together. We are inspired by the immense level of solidarity painted across each page on our platform. The campaigns being run and supported by millions of people around the world are proof of the goodness, power and resilience of humanity and we are working to support them in securing the change that we all deserve to see through these challenging times.
